Automoblox Improvement Project
In this project, my partner and I used the reverse engineering method to create two enhancements of the Automoblox T9 Truck. We created a trailer, along with an entire hitch to connect to the bed of the truck, as well as added propellers. The first stage of reverse engineering is visual, in which we looked at the car at all different angles and recorded the elements and principles of design used in creating the truck. These elements and principles would later be used in the designing of our enhancements, so as to make them not stick out. the next stage of reverse engineering is functional, in which we looked through the parts and recorded their purposes and what they did/ how they did it. The final stage of reverse engineering we used was the structural, where we recorded the materials used, the densities of these parts, and hand-sketched each part.
Define a Problem
Group norms- solid in inventor, communicated well, each finished our half of the project/ did our part, did not work over break, yet still finished on time, organized, helped each other out when needed.
Generate Concepts
Brainstorming list/ Pictures of sketches
Develop a Solution
Construct and Test Prototype
Evaluate the Solution
After my partner and I's design was looked at by my 2nd period teachers, they brought to my attention a few things that could be changed. To fit the original style of the T9 Truck, we decided that maybe a better color for the propellers would be the green of the windshield. Also, the trailer could be the wood used for the body of the car, creating balance.
Present Solution
This project was probably one of the smoothest running and well- executed projects I've done all year, with regards to time and quality. I communicated and worked well with my partner, Eli Rush, and carried my own weight with the project. I am fairly satisfied with how the final design turned out, and am proud of my inventor work as this is my first year using this CAD program and constructed an entire part going off of my skills and brain. There are many factors that go in to changing or enhancing a design such as: will the enhancement make the product carry out its function better, will the enhancement be safe to add to the product, who is the target audience with this enhancement, and is the enhancement visually appealing, specifically to the target audience. The design process was very important to the designing and fabrication of the enhancements we made, specifically the brainstorming and sketching stage. Documenting the Brainstorming process is important because the ideas you originally come up with may give you better ideas later on, which is why there are no bad ideas when brainstorming. sketching was also important for my part of the project, as i often looked back at my sketches to help me understand how i was going to connect the propellers, and where the best locations would be; as well as visualize it before i began blindly designing in inventor.
